Hi! I’m Renée. I live in a large house in Gunma, near Takasaki. You can easily drive or take the train to my home, and also stay after our meal to enjoy a hot spring mineral bath or sand bath spa in Isobe. Just let me know, and we can make arrangements. I’m originally from California, near San Francisco. My parents insisted my family eat fresh, healthy foods. My father is from Louisiana, so my mom cooks a lot of southern foods like spicy greens and beans, rice, corn bread and gumbo. My mom is half Italian, half Irish, so she also cooks a lot of European foods. California cuisine is different from the typical image of American hamburgers, steak and pizza. We eat a lot of fresh vegetables and fruit. Actually, my mom is vegetarian, so I was raised on mainly healthy smoothies, soups, homemade whole grain breads, frittata and pastas. My mother and grandmother went to the market early every Sunday morning and cooked a huge meal at my house for around 25 family members. I helped cut vegetables, prepared hors d’oeuvres, picked flowers in the garden for table arrangements, and set the table. I loved our family Sunday meals. Sunday Brunch is still my favorite.
I have a husband and two children, in elementary and junior high school, so I add "power food" ingredients to my favorite childhood dishes to make them super-nutritious.
I miss having a lot of people over for extended family meals. I would love to spend time with you and share my love for cooking and and eating together. I speak English, French, Japanese, and the universal language of laughter. My mom always sings and laughs while cooking – her secret ingredients. Let’s continue this tradition!
